General Regulations

Article 1 The FengYun geostationary meteorological satellites provide intensive observations within coverage of the on-duty satellite. The FY-2 Satellite observes every 6 minutes, at a range of ±60° longitude of the subpoint and ±10° latitude at the center of the observation area. The FY-4 satellite observes up to every 5 minutes, with the observation range being set based on actual demands and observation frequency. The FengYun geostationary meteorological satellites provide nominal datasets and derived products. The list and description of intensive on-duty satellites and observations that they provide will be regularly updated on the portal of the National Satellite Meteorological Center (NSMC) of China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

Article 2 The international users of FengYun meteorological satellites refer to those authorized by the China Meteorological Administration within coverage of the intensive on-duty satellite.

Article 3 In the case that an international user of FengYun meteorological satellite is affected by meteorological disasters such as typhoons, rainstorms, severe convections, forest and grassland fires, or sand and dust storms, it can apply for regional intensive observation by FengYun geostationary satellites.

Application Procedure

Article 4 Application for submission

  1. In the case that an international user requires an intensive observation, an application generally shall be fled over 24 hours in advance, with the longest intensive observation not exceeding 48 hours.
  2. The authorized international users log on to their accounts on the portal of NSMC/CMA to accurately fill in the starting and ending time and range of the intensive observation, and reasons and purpose of the application.

Article 5 Change of application

In the case that an international user extends or early terminates the intensive observation, it shall fill in an application for change through its authorized account on the portal of NSMC/CMA.

Article 6 Review of application

Once the application is received, NSMC/CMA determines whether the intensive observation is launched based on the operational status of the FengYun geostationary meteorological satellites, and gives feedbacks to the applying user.

Data Access

Article 7 Launch of regional intensive observation

Once the application is reviewed, NSMC/CMA launches its FengYun Geostationary satellite for the intensive observation, with relevant data and products being generated.

Article 8 Dissemination of data and products

The data, images and quantitative products from the regional intensive observation by FengYun geostationary meteorological satellites are provided for the international users via CMACast, the portal of NSMC/CMA, and satellite broadcasting.

Feedback

Article 9 Application summary

The international users shall provide timely feedbacks to NSMC/CMA on the utilization of data and products from the intensive observation.
